About DSM
How long has The Dallas School of Music been around?
- The Dallas School of Music started in June of 1992 - we've been providing quality music education for close to 30 years!
Who started The Dallas School of Music?
- The Dallas School of Music was started by Dr. Bob Lawrence. During his doctoral studies at the University of North Texas, Dr. Lawrence conducted extensive research on community music education which which was the focus of his dissertation. His passion for music education, research, and entrepreneurship led to the vision of what we now know as The Dallas School of Music.
Do we have more than one location?
- No, there is only one location for The Dallas School of Music - 14376 Proton Road, Dallas TX 75244
Lessons
Are DSM lessons private?
- Yes, all lessons at The Dallas School of Music are private. Even though the entire DSM faculty are committed to, and take responsibility for, providing you with a wonderful music learning experience, you are matched with your own personal faculty member upon registration and enrollment.
How long are DSM lessons?
- Lessons are either 30 minutes 60 minutes in length. You may enroll for multiple lessons throughout the week and/or change your lesson length at any time.
Does DSM offer performing opportunities?
- Absolutely! We offer several performing opportunities throughout each semester so students can gain solo and group performing experience with other DSM students. In addition to formal recitals at the end of each semester, we also are committed to serving our community with student performances for our elderly (local retirement homes and assisted living facilities) and local children hospitals.
Are lessons available for Adults?
- Of course! In fact, about half of our students are adults. We have students as young as 3 and as old as 93. Our adult programs are fabulous and you will feel right at home.
Are all of the lessons taught at The Dallas School of Music?
- Yes, all lessons are taught at our beautiful, contemporary, and state-of-the-art facility. However, if you prefer lessons in the comfort of your home you can have your lessons online - gotta love technology!
Can Parents sit in on lessons?
- Of course! Parents are always welcome to attend any lessons to experience the learning environment and development that their child is enjoying. When preferring not to sit in on a lesson, parents can relax in our reception areas or enjoy some time, friendships, and a gourmet cup of coffee or tea in our Coffee Cafe.
How are DSM Lessons different from other organizations and private teachers?
- All DSM lessons are taught by professional faculty who hold either a bachelor, masters, or doctorate degree in music along with extensive teaching experience. Our faculty are active performers locally, nationally, and internationally.
- All DSM lessons extend beyond the weekly lesson time. Students have daily access to DSM faculty through our Opus1 platform. Faculty and students can engage through direct messaging (DM), share educational documents and file types (PDF's, MP3) as well as external links and videos, No other music school or private teacher is committed to students as to develop and provide professional support and services seven days a week!
Enrolling
Can I enroll at any time? or do I have to wait for the beginning of a semester?
- You sure can! We have four enrollment plans, the Single Plan, Monthly Plan, Flex Plan, and Semester Plan, that you can select whenever you are ready to begin your musical journey. In fact, our Semester Plan, which offers our best tuition rate, will be prorated for you regardless of when you choose to begin. We're confident that one of our four enrollment options will fit your needs and schedule perfectly.
Why do I have to submit a Student Profile to begin the enrollment process?
- Submitting an online student profile is simply our way of getting to know you. What days and times will work best for you to have lessons, past musical experience, goals, expectations, etc. The more we know about you the better we can serve you. We want your musical experience at The Dallas School of Music to exceed your expectations from the very beginning.
Once I submit my Student Profile and the profile fee, how long will it take to process so I can begin my lessons?
- The enrollment process typically takes 24 to 48 hours from the time you submit your profile. Your profile preferences are given to Dr. Lawrence who works directly with you so the details involving your enrollment are handled properly. We want to assure you a quick and easy enrollment with complete satisfaction.
Tuition
How much does it cost to take lessons at DSM?
- For all new incoming students, tuition is $50 for thirty-minute lessons. It includes your private lesson each week plus a private online educational support portal (Opus1) and participation in all of our optional performances.
How do I pay my tuition?
- In addition to cash, tuition can be paid with any Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express credit or debit card. You can opt to pay the semester in monthly payments or pay it full and receive a tuition savings.
