Maria ChoiMaria began learning piano at age 4 in El Paso, Texas. In the 5th grade, she started playing cello in the elementary school's orchestra. She completed her undergraduate studies at Lee University in Tennessee and earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a Piano emphasis and with Cello and voice Minors.
After graduation, Maria started her first teaching job at a public middle school in Mesquite, Texas. There, her orchestras achieved success year after year. 5 years later, Maria moved to Plano and led as the head director of a large orchestra program at another CCC middle school, where she became proficient at teaching violin and viola. Concurrently, she completed graduate studies at the University of North Texas in Denton and received her Master's degree in Music Education with a String Pedagogy emphasis. Maria is passionate about teaching music to beginner students and her goal is for everyone to experience the joy of music. Music is a unique form of expression and communication which has the ability to connect people. Every student is unique, and so, lesson methods will vary according to each individual's needs. Maria herself struggled musically, and therefore, she has picked up many different routes to tackling different techniques and concepts. She also enjoys sports and uses relatable analogies when relaying new ideas. Learning an instrument is much more than learning notes or songs, but about expressing ideas and emotions. Maria is dedicated to connecting with each student and genuinely cares about her students’ holistic progress. The Dallas School of Music
