Dr. Norm WickIf music be the food of love and variety is the spice of life, then Dr. Wick’s career represents a lovely, seasoned offering to his students. Strong experiences in music education, performance and composition feed in to his enthusiasm and ability to teach. Wick holds masters degrees in both piano performance and composition, and the Ph.D. degree in music theory. Performances include solo recitals on piano and organ, professional accompanying (for hundreds of soloists, ensembles, operas and musicals), vocalist (as Praise Team Leader and paid tenor with St. Mark’s Schola Cantorum), and choir director (for both collegiate and church choirs).
Wick began his college teaching as a fellowship stipend winner at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, continued as part-time instructor at Kenyon College in Ohio, and as a Graduate Assistant Instructor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Then for 20 years Dr. Wick served as a full-time tenured music professor at Southern Methodist University. He currently teaches college classes at Texas A&M University–Commerce. College courses he has taught include piano lessons, chamber music coaching, choral conducting, piano laboratory, ear training, sight singing, score reading, analysis, and music appreciation. Wick has presented numerous scholarly papers at professional conferences and published a number of articles in scholarly music journals. His passion for Christian ministry carried him through 32 years as Director of Music Ministry and organist in five churches. He has written dozens of original Christian works, hundreds of arrangements for choirs and praise teams, and is a published writer of sacred anthems. Many of Dr. Wicks’s Christian titles are licensed under CCLI North America and have been used throughout the world. Combined media has allowed Dr. Norm Wick’s music to reach out to every US state and territory and to 179 sovereign nations and dependencies. Norm came to DSM in 2009 and has enjoyed the rewarding interactions with his students of all ages and abilities.
