Dr. Abigail Head-SalmeronAbigail Head-Salmerón, a soprano from Roanoke, Virginia, has been immersed in music from an early age. She began her musical journey in her church children's choir and later joined the Roanoke College Children's Choir. Abigail pursued her passion for vocal performance at
Samford University, where she earned her Bachelors degree. During her time there, she showcased her talent in various productions, including portraying the title role in Amahl and the Night Visitors and contributing to choruses in the following productions: On the Town, Hansel and Gretel, The Desert Song, and Die Fledermaus. Following her undergraduate studies, Abigail was an apprentice artist with Opera Roanoke for two seasons, participating in productions of South Pacific, Susannah, Tosca, and La bohème. She then pursued further education, earning a Masters degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University and, subsequently, a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Georgia. At Peabody, Abigail's performances included roles in Suor Angelica (Suor Osmina) and The Hiding Tree (Narrator). At the University of Georgia, she portrayed Despina in Cosi fan tutte and Anne Eggerman in A Little Night Music. Her doctoral dissertation included writing, directing, and performing in a one-act opera based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland titled Down the Rabbit Hole. After completing her doctorate, Abigail relocated to Dallas to further her career in both performance and teaching. She remains actively involved in the DFW area, recently appearing in productions of The Little Mermaid (ensemble) and All Shook Up (Natalie Haller) and singing with her church choir for services and concerts. Abigail is passionately committed to helping her students meet their vocal goals, guiding them in connecting deeply with the narratives they convey through music. She encourages them to explore innovative approaches to text and melody, always emphasizing authentic emotional expression alongside foundational vocal techniques. In her teaching and performing endeavors, Abigail keeps Bach's motto in mind: Soli Deo Gloria – To God alone be the glory. The Dallas School of Music
