COVID-19 Update 3
May 29, 2020
An update from The Dallas School of Music regarding the continuation of lessons and phased reopening of DSM as we continue work to protect our faculty, students and families from COVID-19, while providing quality music education for our students.
Moving forward, we will be addressing DSM phased openings one month at a time. This update is applicable from May 30, 2020 through June 30, 2020. The DSM Summer semester will begin as planned tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, 2020. Faculty have been given the option to continue teaching online remotely, remotely from DSM or return to in-person teaching at DSM. All registered students for the Summer semester will be receiving an email regarding their faculty decision on how they will provide lessons for the upcoming month.
For those students/faculty returning to DSM for in-person lessons, please note the following changes in protocol to best serve our faculty and families.

Thank you for your support during these last three months and moving forward into our 29th year as the leader in DFW music education!

What has changed:
- The DSM Coffee Cafe and water fountains will be unavailable for the coming month. Hopefully this will return soon - we know how much musicians love their coffee!
- It is recommended you remain in your vehicle until your lesson time if at all possible to help us with social distancing. That being said, the lobby areas will be open, but we do ask you to maintain appropriate social distancing, and we will be limiting the front lobby to no more than three (3) people at any given time.
- Hand sanitizer is being provided in the studios and keyboards/benches will be wiped between lessons with disinfecting wipes
- Masks are encouraged but not required. For obvious reasons, there are some instruments and voice students that simply cannot wear masks during a lesson and have it be an effective form of education. Additionally, while we understand there are a lot of personal preferences and opinions going around right now, DSM asks you to please respect those around you if those opinions differ from yours!
What has NOT changed:
- A welcoming, encouraging and kind music education environment! We can't wait to see our DSM community in person again and make music with you - we guarantee you'll be greeted with a smile!
Thank you for your support during these last three months and moving forward into our 29th year as the leader in DFW music education!
COVID-19 Update 2
March 20, 2020
A brief update from The Dallas School of Music regarding the continuation of lessons as we work to protect our faculty, students and families from COVID-19. During this difficult time, our priority continues to provide quality music education to all of our students and families, as well as providing a continued source of income for our faculty.
Rather than closing, The Dallas School of Music has made the decision to move all lessons online until further notice. DSM uses Google Meet as their online platform and regularly provides lessons around the world via our online services. It is our hope that our effort to keep lessons continuing without interruption will help provide a sense of normalcy and routine for our students in the coming weeks.
Students currently enrolled at DSM will be hearing from their faculty in the near future regarding their lessons if they haven’t already. All lessons will remain at their regularly scheduled days and times; however, if a change to your schedule needs to be made due to the current circumstances, please contact the business offices regarding a permanent schedule change via email at tamalyn@dsminfo.com, rather than your faculty member.
The Dallas School of Music resumes regular business hours today, Friday, March 20, 2020. For all prospective students, we are happy to hear from you and look forward to serving you! Please contact Dr. Bob Lawrence at drlawrence@dsminfo.com to learn more about the immediate learning opportunities available to you at DSM and to begin the enrollment process.
We look forward to seeing all of our students soon and pray for your continued health as we work together to discover, learn and play music!

COVID-19 Update 1
March 12, 2020
A brief update from The Dallas School of Music regarding the continuation of lessons as we work to protect our faculty, students and families from the COVID-19. Our priority has always been, and will continue to be, to provide top quality music education in a safe and secure environment.
While DSM will continue to provide lessons to students in-person at The Dallas School of Music, please be advised we are taking every opportunity to clean and sanitize our facility, studios and instruments. Understandably, if you feel more comfortable taking your lesson from the comfort of your home, DSM can provide an online class for you in place of your usual in-person lesson. In the case you do not feel comfortable taking your lesson in either of those ways, please cancel and use your rescheduling vouchers provided in your registration emails to reschedule at a later time in the semester.
Students coming to DSM should be prepared to arrive a few minutes early in order to wash their hands with soap and water provided in the restrooms prior to their lesson. Faculty have been advised to wash their hands between each student, as well as wipe down any keyboards used between lessons. DSM underwent a deep cleaning yesterday, as it does weekly; however, we will be increasing the cleaning of the facility during the coming weeks in an effort to keep germs to a minimum.
The DSM Calendar will continue as planned through Monday, March 16th and we will take our Spring Break as scheduled Tuesday-Thursday, March 17-19, while planning to resume lessons on Friday, March 20th.
Many thanks as we all work together to provide a clean and safe environment to discover, learn and play music!
