Alex StiglemanAlex was born in Richmond, Indiana to a musical family of church musicians. From a young age, Alex heard the incredible and soulful sounds of gospel music which began his musical journey. He started taking piano lessons at the age of 5, and from that moment on music was a
vital part of his everyday life. At the age of 13 Alex began to teach himself the guitar, and was inspired by the rock sounds of Van Halen and Pink Floyd, the funky rhythms of Tower of Power, and the harmonies of Wayne Shorter. It was at this point where Alex started to take an interest in improvisation and composition, which would lead him to his formal education at the University of North Texas. Alex has received a Bachelors degree in Jazz Studies form the University of North Texas which is widely considered to be one of the best music schools for Jazz in the world. It was here that incredible players such as Noel Johnston Davy Mooney pushed Alex to excellence in traditional jazz, solo guitar, and modern fusion settings. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree he returned to the University of North Texas to receive his Master’s degree in Jazz Composition. Under the guidance of Rich DeRosa, Alex started is career as a composer writing for jazz small groups, big bands, funk bands, vocal ensembles, orchestras, and digital media. Alex teaches guitar, piano, composition, and DAW training. As a teacher, Alex is dedicated to giving each individual student the necessary instruction to achieve their short and long term goals.
